Workshop Descriptions

Advanced Photography: Guided development of a photography portfolio through the completion of projects. Prerequisites: Introduction & Intermediate Photography classes. 2 hrs per week / 8 weeks.

Art for the Beginner: Project orientation encourages the student to expand their definition and appreciation of art. Students will have the option of entering work in Arts-On-The-Park or Ridge Art competitions. 2 hrs per week / 6 weeks.

Audition for the Theatre: An introduction in the basics of preparing and performing for theatre auditions. Includes selection of scenes and monologues. Will incorporate simulated auditions and class critique. 2 hrs. per week / 4 weeks.

Creative Writing I: Addresses the problem of “how to begin” the creation of fiction and poetry, plays and screenplays, drama and comedy. Involves the completion of writing projects and participation in class critique. 1.5 hrs per week / 8 weeks.

Digital Photography: An introduction to the basics of digital cameras and computer software necessary to produce great pictures. Class time and outside assignments. 2 hrs per week / 5 weeks.

Fundamentals of Drawing: The techniques of drawing the still life, the human form, etc. Studio time, drawing exercises and projects. 2 hrs per week / 6 weeks.

How to Read Books & Films: The identification and use of the various literary devices used by authors and film makers. Students will read a novel and view film clips. 2 hrs per week / 6 weeks.

Intermediate Photography: Student completes assignments developing skilled use of the camera and increased competency in the darkroom. Prerequisite: Introduction to Photography.
2 hrs per week / 5 weeks.

Introduction to Photography: Presents the basics of using a camera and working in the darkroom. Student must complete a project developing film and producing prints. Must own an SLR camera. 2 hrs per week / 5 weeks.

Introduction to Theatre Production: Students will learn the basics of play writing, directing and acting by producing and performing a short original play. 2 hrs per week / 8 weeks.

Popular Music I, Cause and Consequence: A guide to navigating the treacherous waters of popular music. The student will learn to listen with discernment and understanding. 2 hrs per week / 5 weeks.

Popular Music II, Cause and Consequence: A further development of various themes in popular music. Through practice the student develops keener discernment. 2 hrs per week / 5 weeks.

Theatre, the Stage of Ideas: A survey of major plays and movements from William Shakespeare to Sam Shepard. Six plays & discussion. 2 hrs per week / 8 weeks.

Women & Modern American Literature: A survey of great American literature by women from Kate Chopin to Sylvia Plath. Will require significant reading and preparation outside of class.
